Nymphomaniac, Moonrise Kingdom and Don Jon

Three (very different) movies about love... I'd say...

Nymphomaniac - with the perfectly-chosen-subtitle "Forget about love" is, what could we expect from Lars von Trier anyway?

...a polyphonic tour-de-force... a meticulously orchestrated autopsy... a retelling of greek tragedy in pornographic key... offering so many interpretational levels - existential (a display of the most well-known sexual habits? deviations? BDSM, incest, homosexuality),

...metaphoric, religious (what is sin?), energetic... what was the definition of "deconstructivism" again? and I could go on...

(brilliant posters by the way)

Moonrise Kingdom
By far the best Wes Anderson (I've seen) so far...

Ironic, original, sweet (without ever becoming cheesy), odd, eccentric, stylish, impeccably filmed - with virtually not a frame out of place.
Brilliant soundtrack.

And let's not forget the quirky weather man - greek chorus.

"There is elegance and formal brilliance in Moonrise Kingdom, as well as a lot of gentle, winning comedy" (The Guardian)

And another well-made poster.

Don Jon
I'm not much for actors directed movies, for comedies nor for movie posters that so obviously try to manipulate the viewer but this was surprisingly watchable... Both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson act well finding just the right tonality between being "real" and adequately cartoonish.

Another take on the concept: "Romantic movies ruin relationships. They give women unrealistic expectations about what to expect from men. Porn has the same effect on men."

The bad:
- unbalanced (first half of the movie is much... longer)
- completely lacks... mmm... complexity? :)
